Grey’s Anatomy :: Put It To The Test

ABC

So the writers must really be working hard to make this a stand-alone series finale in case somehow ABC changes their mind and un-renews for the 19th season. There were all sorts of tests rolling around on this week’s episode — and a hot minute and then some of the most awkwardly comprised flashback clips — I swear to God if you didn’t know better you’d think James Pickens had died in real life and they had to write him out unexpectedly and that ABC had just canceled that order for Season 19.

Bailey — contrary to the preview — did NOT have another MI — though Maggie said she’s putting her body under too much stress and will be heading for one if she doesn’t de-stress. (Adding the toddler from Station 19 into the mix of her home life stressers doesn’t get seen on Grey’s but we’re getting all the repercussions.) BAILEY lost her ever dear god-loving MIND during that panic-attack as she blew up at Meredith — screaming about Derek being married and you could just see Meredith lose it.

Pushing Meredith to ultimately decide to take Hamilton’s offer, though she hasn’t told Hamilton that yet. (I’m sure they’ll find some way to make that fall through — or just as she thinks she’s ‘starting over’ he’ll move the clinic, himself, and Kai Bartley out to Seattle … that way Amelia doesn’t have to lose Kai.) Between having to try and explain her original situation with Derek and then seeing that patient’s wife crying over her brain dead husband — you can see how triggering that is for Meredith — it becomes a moment.

I just want to point out — if that ‘Residency Accreditation Survey’ had happened with Core Grey’s attendings? I mean SERIOUSLY? Picture Derek and Mark and Callie and Arizona, Kepner, Jackson, and Alex trying to answer all those questions. Jo did the best. Put those desk-jockeys back in their place! But because you can never have things go right at Grey-Sloan-Mercy-Death, they’re being penalized — FOR A SURGEON SHORTAGE. That’s literally what she said — that during a GLOBAL MEDICAL PERSONNEL SHORTAGE Grey-Sloan’s residency program is on probation with intent to terminate because THEY DON’T HAVE ENOUGH SURGEONS. Send those crapheads back to whatever little office they came out of.

ABC

Richard passed his physician’s fitness exam. (The whole reason for ringing Bartley and Hamilton in.) But not without having to go rescue Schmitt first. How many tension pneumos have we had to do over-the-phone/off-campus on this show? I’ve lost count. Schmitt got into it with his mom (after Helm popped by to rip him a new one) over the hashtag throwdown at the hospital. Turns out it may have been Levi’s mom who complained to the residency-accreditation people. But Levi’s mom being an overbearing, overprotective and unwarranted helicopter, launched them into a fight, which had her storming off up a flight of stairs and then promptly falling down them in a way that was stomach-turning to watch. (Well-done stunt-camera-team!) Which prompted Schmitt to get back on the horse, so to speak. He came riding in just like Cristina did when she flamed out.

Not a whole lot else to deal with this week — Nick Marsh successfully transplanted a donor kidney — from a pig — into a brain-dead individual on life-support. Link met Kai for like 5 seconds but that got interrupted by the rig showing up with Levi and his mom. And Maggie, Winston, Teddy, and Hunt all got to overshare their personal lives with the crapheads from the Accreditation board.

Apparently we ran out of filming material because we don’t get another new episode FOR A MONTH. (Come on, ABC. DO BETTER.) Addi’s back on May 5th. So at least we have that to look forward to … in a month!
