Grey’s Anatomy :: Girlfriend in a Coma

ABC

Don’t even know where to start with this one because for as many ridiculous WTF the moments – there just so happened to be an equally balanced number of super endearing ones. And is it just me – or does the show still feel like it’s missing people? I know we ditched Kepner and Arizona at the end of last season and we have all these new people but each week it just feels like there’s a void or a series of scenes including missing characters that got cut last minute or something. Oh wait – it’s the interns. THE INTERNS ARE MISSING!!! Except for Schmitt (who had one of the most amazing heartfelt moments in the OR!! He owned that ‘I am what I am’ moment so hard!!!)

WHAT was with that hooker-red lipstick Meredith was wearing from the ‘wedding under the stars’ scene through to the end!? Because it looked trashy as all hell. And seriously. Seriously? I mean this passive-aggressive all around the mulberry bush – and really – if that was the path she was going down?? Poor Link! Yes, DeLuca is a good guy. But Link could be too. And also – there is that really awkward bit about Maggie that everyone seems to forget about. Remember how her sister lost her mind the last time? You know – when Maggie learned about Mer and Riggs? Good luck with that one, Mer!

And whose McMansion was Christmas in at House of Avery-Fox-Webber? Because that is NOT Richard’s house … and since when does Catherine Fox have her McMansion in Seattle? Doesn’t she still live and work primarily out of Boston when she’s not crashing into Grey-Sloan? Or did Jackson and Maggie and (not-actually-present) Harriet fly out to Boston? Continuity, Shonda! On the upside of that – it was really harrowing to see Catherine struggling with her therapy, and beautiful to see her recovered at the end.

In the vein of continuity … when did the Karevs get an upgrade to their crummy little loft? I know they’ve been fixing it up over time, and Jo has really made it their home … but that pan shot all through the New Year’s party was clearly for some loft that was like three times the size of their place – and yet totally their place. Two for two, Shonda, get it together.

The Betty Bomb was the worst. Owen is – and always has been – a major jackass. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions and Owen’s are always selfish. His whole blast-out of poor life choice – like Amelia said – he doesn’t see the line. And his defense which is supposed to make us go all soft and gooey is that Leo is his son and he needs to know if he’s going to lose him. THAT DOESN’T EXCUSE HIS BEHAVIOR. Uggggh. He’s just this giant jackass who we keep forgiving and forgiving – he was even giving the confused-soon-to-be-raging stink eye to Koracick when he bee-lined out of the room for his date with Teddy. Because when that comes to full realization – watch out, Koracick!!! Not really sure how Amelia’s going to deal with that – with any of it really. Maybe she can date Link since he’s been cast-off by Mer. Teddy and Koracick are cute together, though!

Ben & Bailey … yet another piece of disoriented inconsistency. I feel like this season as a whole is just missing little tidbits. Does anyone actually remember her calling a pause to their marriage? Or did that just come up when he mentioned it (or she referenced it a few episodes back about him not living in the house …) Regardless, the treehouse was so sweet. Glad they’re back together and BootyCallBailey is getting her booty call back on!

Pick the one that rewinds time for you. So … we pick DeLuca because what – he was from the days of Derek? No, that’s not right – she showed up two episodes after Derek died … and Meredith came back from her year of missing whilst pregnant. Did Derek ever steal her away from a date she was supposed to be on with someone? Well sort of – he pulled her into brain surgery when she was supposed to go on a date with Finn. (Or was it Flynn? McVet!) I don’t get it. Really tragic what happened with Natasha. Really sentimental idea for that ‘wedding under the stars’ (way to go, Alex!) Wish that the doctors wouldn’t have picked such crappy galaxy gifs, though some were okay! And why didn’t Meredith officiate? We all know she got certified – she married the Karevs!

Such an up and down and all around town episode. With no interns. Except for Schmitt. And plenty of jealousy, childishness, and nonsense aplenty for all. Let’s see if next week – on actual Valentine’s Day even though the Valentine’s Day episode (along with the T-day, Christmas, and NYE episodes) all aired THIS week. Seriously? Seriously.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursday at 8:00 PM on ABC.
