Grey’s Anatomy :: Fight For Your Mind

ABC

I feel like this week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy is the proverbial let-down because next week and the season finale are going to be so traumatic. But damn if I didn’t call it – with Arizona going back to New York and Kepner biting the dust. Careful what you wish for … since most of us (okay, well, quite possibly just me …) have been wishing for the Kepner departure since before the shooting, back when it was still Seattle Grace Mercy West. Neither here nor there, back to what actually happened this week as we all know how next week is going to pan out.

How tragically adorable that Sophia STOLE FIELD TRIP MONEY!!! To buy herself a plane ticket to go back to New York. THAT is just – I mean – wow. Shonda actually put Arizona through her paces and we were reminded, since it’s so rarely focused on these days, that Arizona did actually almost lose it all, life, leg, etc. And that she is still an amputee. Loved the working dynamic between her and the other mom – making that whole thing work – but did anyone else feel a little ‘history repeats itself’ with the parting of the ways with Carina? We’ve been here before. Several times, actually, with Callie. (And speaking of which, is she still with Perfect-Penny, the Derek-killer? Can we please oh please oh please get a Sara Ramirez guest appearance for the finale???)

Alex’s journey was deep. Guess we’re not going to address that Aaron is committed. Or Libby – is that her name? The sister? Is she ever going to make an appearance? Will she be invited to the wedding? Totally realistic that the mom can’t go – I like that. I even buy into the Schizophrenia burning itself out, and the way they handled that whole encounter, very believable. But seriously – the baseball thing – Jo wasn’t even around when that became a thing … way to recycle, Grey’s Anatomy!

Jaggie’s still on track. That’s nice. I guess. Really, really sweet that he’s thinking of Harriet whilst trying to clean up the mess that his grandfather made. Loved that ‘your friend Jesus want to buy a yacht?’ line. I dislike how suddenly April is all whole and healed and fixed and whatever, so she’s all friendly with Jackson and all nice to everyone but in a mellow, non-annoying kind of way. We get it – it’s to make the impact of her untimely death (from God only knows what because that preview was soooooooo vague) that much more sad for everyone. Or maybe to make it sad period for those of us (probably just me) on team Anti-Kepner.

Bailey is Bailey is Bailey is Bailey at the end of the day and God love her for it! Put that ridiculous intern in his place! Please. Thank you. Goodbye. He had no case. Period. And had the good sense to take her slap upside the head, verbally of course, as an apology. You go, Bailey. But these interns. Ugh. Our fantastic five were never that awful. Even when Izzie was cutting L-VAD wires and Meredith was throwing her hand inside body cavities filled with bombs. And when Lexie was chopping up other interns and all that. Even when our interns where stupid, they were respectful. They had class. This bunch … I don’t even know what. And where was Parker this week? I actually like him. And Qadri, who we saw for two seconds, BloodBank/Glasses and Hellmouth can hop on the Bello-boat and work with Cristina. She needs interns to abuse, because I’m sure by now Ross has actually become a competent co-shark alongside of her.

Love that we saw Amy at a meeting. Love that. Was half-expecting Betty to charge in at the end. Glad she didn’t because that’s not reality. Like Amy, I hope she does come back. Amy this whole episode was on point and so freaking amazing.

ABC

Meredith has morphed into this thing I do not recognize. One minute she’s trying to correct the wrongs of the past, the next she’s being stand-offish, all while being coy and flirty and way too friendly with Dr. No Name. (I swear he didn’t actually have a name.) Seriously – it took ages to warm up to Riggs, and then he flew the coup with Meghan, and now she keeps flirting with weird people – I thought we were happy that she was a mom of three doing her thing, winning Catherine Fox awards, etc. Get it together, Meredith. Unlike Kepner and Arizona, you’ve got two more seasons to ride out.

Guess Kepner’s dying next week is going to overshadow Arizona’s departure. One at a time and all that. I do feel for Harriet, though. Nobody should have to grow up without their mom, even if their mom is April Kepner.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8:00 PM on ABC.
