Fallon & Jeff

Fallon is thrilled with how Jeff has helped turn her company around in such a short time, and Jeff is grateful for the opportunity to turn his career around, with new offers for his services pouring in and no one is talking about Bruno … I mean Mars. And Jeff has a new long term cost-saving idea for the company that Fallon approves before he even shows her the breakdowns of what it will cost to get started. He wants to lower the company’s carbon footprint to zero, or as close to it, and Fallon sees that as just another part of her legacy. The best part of the idea is that it could involve buying back the Morrell green energy company the pair started, oh, back in Season 1 when the cousins almost got married (before they knew they were related). A company called Toro now operates it and Jeff has set up a meeting with the CEO … who it turns out it not a man as listed on the reports but Fallon’s old nemesis Patti de Vilbis (she used a fake male name so people didn’t judge her for who she is). And she has no intention of selling. She only took the meeting in the hopes of hooking up with Jeff again (they dated in high school). Fallon is determined to get back the company with her family name on it, refusing to let Patti drag it through the mud (only Alexis is allowed to do that). So old Fallon is back and ready to play dirty.

Attending a shindig announcing Morrell’s new deal with the city to turn City Hall green, Fallon and Jeff decide to attend the party to see what kind of dirt they can find to take Patti down. The biggest reveal is that her oil baron father funds the company, which makes zero sense in the real world. Why would an oil guy be funding green energy? Jeff and Fallon make their way to the roof to check out the solar panels, and Fallon’s plan is to turn them off to make it look like Patti’s company can’t deliver on their promise. Jeff reluctantly goes along with the plan, and with his little gizmo in hand he cuts the power … but it only drops by 5%. They find a panel that shows the solar energy part of the power grid is really a sham, with the majority of the energy coming from a coal-fueled plant owned by dear old daddy de Vilbis. So that’s how Patti is appearing so successful. The two nearly get caught by Patti and security, but Jeff springs into action so Fallon can sneak away, and while Patti admits the entire scam to him, Jeff secretly records the conversation. But Fallon has a change of heart about exposing Patti after a creepy conversation with her father that left Fallon needing to take a shower to wash the ick off, seeing now that Patti is just doing what she can to not be the disappointment her father clearly thinks she is. Jeff isn’t about to let the de Vilbises get away with harming the community — tossing in a dig ‘like the Carringtons’ — and when Patti is ready to begin the presentation, it’s Jeff’s recording that plays, exposing the lie and humiliating Patti in front of her father who tells her he knew she’d mess this operation up just like she’s done her whole life. And he also tells her to clear out her wing! And he tells Fallon the company is all hers. The next day, feeling terrible about what went down, Fallon and Jeff invite Patti to stay on with Morrell but she is pissed to say the least, and on the way out makes a call to someone, seeking revenge on Fallon for once again stealing what’s rightfully hers out from under her. Jeff, however, asks Fallon — now that she is back as CEO — if he can run Morrell and she is more than happy to make family part of her legacy. But who did Patti call?

Liam & Culhane

With a very short window to start production on Liam’s film, Culhane offered up the nightclub as a location. As the guys and Nina — who is still not thrilled to be around Culhane — talk about the shoot, Michael realizes there is a problem with the date of the 17th. There is a wedding scheduled for that day and Nina is taking this mistake out on Michael, but he tells them it was the producers who scheduled the shoot for the 13th. Of course this only increases the tension between Michael and Nina, but he comes up with the idea to try and trick the bridezilla into moving her wedding party to the La Mirage ballroom (she wanted it in the club because it was something no one else had done). While Michael is meeting with the bride, Liam shows up dressed as a fireman informing them that the standing capacity for the club is 375 but the sitting capacity is 250, so she has to move the party. The bride … is thrilled because she wanted to cut the guest list down anyway, and Liam is not happy that the plan didn’t work. With no location and no time to get new permits, Nina is about to walk off the project, effectively shutting it down. Liam goes to apologize to Michael, again and this time with a box of donuts, for taking out his anger on him but Michael may have something up his sleeve. Before Nina was about to leave town, Michael informed them that everything was set for the 17th. The bridge agreed to move her date on one condition … Nina shoots the wedding video. Nina is not happy, reminding the guys that she is an award winning director and she’s not going to take a paying gig to shoot someone’s wedding video. Oh, it’s not paid, Michael tells her, it’s the offer being made to change the date. Liam gives Nina his patented puppy dog eyes and she gives in, so everyone gets a happy ending.

Sam & Kirby

Screengrab

Sam is doing all he can to avoid Daniel, not ready to even consider that this stranger may be his father until the DNA test comes back. Kirby’s appetite for modeling has returned after helping out Dominique but her agent isn’t taking her calls. That is all Sam needs to distract him from his own problems, making a call to the agent himself. In the meantime, the results come and and Daniel … you ARE the father! But Sam is still holding a grudge, not able to comprehend why he never heard of this guy before. He finally gets the story and it doesn’t make the situation much better. Basically Daniel hooked up with Sam’s mom, but he left the country before he even knew there was a Sam. When he found out five years later, he tried to come back to Columbia but she was in a relationship with another man didn’t want Daniel involved. But Sam is still angry that his stepfather was abusive to both him and his mother, so he’s blaming Daniel for not trying to rescue them. Under the circumstances there really wasn’t much he could do, but Sam has decided — thanks to some sketchy advice from Cristal Lite — that the only family he needs is the family he’s chosen. As for Kirby, Sam managed to get a call back from the agent and invited her to La Mirage with some ruse in which Kirby would just happen to be there having lunch. But not even that worked because the agent said Kirby was ‘damaged goods’ from the last show they worked on and no one will hire her. But later, the agent’s companion — and don’t accuse her of being an employee of the agent — thinks Kirby deserves a second chance because we all make mistakes. Lightbulb for Sam who realizes he’s been a dick and decides to give Daniel a chance after all.

The Cristals

Cristal Lite is doing all she can to convince Blake to sign the Flores company over to Beto, but her behavior is raising suspicions, especially since she tells Blake she needs a day off from their morning run. Gasp! She then surprises Fallon with some valid advice, but her attempt at giving a shoulder massage to Sam is sketchy at best. But it is she who gives him the advice about chosen families. But as she continues to feign health issues and suggests a vacation in Cancun is needed — a Carrington would never slum it in Cancun! — Blake refuses to budge. But Beto texts her and asks if she’s given Blake the little gift he gave her, which was a large vial of white powder, and she finally can’t wait any longer for him to sign the papers. She prepares him a coffee martini with the powder but Blake does not drink coffee martinis. She tries to talk him into it saying he needs to caffeine pick-me-up but Blake surprises her and gives her the signed contracts to turn the company over to Beto. And then he reaches for the drink but she knocks it over, purposely, to give Blake an excited hug. Mission accomplished. Real Cristal has tried to get Beto to believe that the double is going to kill her and steal her life, but he’s not buying it. Once he has the papers, he’s going to take off and make a call on where the police can find Cristal. Before he leaves her she asks for one last hug, and somehow manages to pinch his lighter in the process … even though she was tied up. After he left, she started to burn the ropes. Beto met the fake and she gave him the contracts, but her tardiness was going to make him miss his plane if he didn’t leave. She said she’d make sure the authorities knew where to find Cristal, and he believed her. So off he goes and she goes to give Cristal a final goodbye, gas can in hand, ready to burn the place down. But … Cristal burned through those ropes and Daniella Alonso got to have an epic catfight with herself. And of course Blake showed up, having tracked Cristal’s phone. But which one is the real Cristal? He asks them each to tell him something only they would know and both gave correct answers. Finally Blake asked Cristal what she said to him on their wedding night, and the fake said something about how much she loved him, but real Cristal knew the answer was ‘I can’t believe you wore those shoes.’ The phony tried to run but Blake told her the driver outside was armed. He began to suspect something was going on because of the lack of a tan line on the fake’s ring finger. He thought Cristal was having an affair so he put the tracker on her phone. Oh, and the contracts he gave Beto were fakes so he’s probably going to have to deal with the authorities. All’s well that ends well and Cristal finally gets to sleep in her own bed. I hope she had the sheets changed.
