There are a couple of things really obvious about Dynasty thus far this season: (1) These first two episodes were obviously meant to be the last two episodes of Season 3, especially with this week’s cliffhangers, and (2) Daniella Alonso is really, really pregnant and they are going to hilarious lengths to cover it up by shooting almost all of her shots in mid-close up, hiding her behind things, having her carry a garment bag and even using a double from the back. It’s actually entertaining to see the obviousness of the cover-ups. For the record, Season 4 began production on October 15, 2020 and Daniella revealed on a podcast on November 5, 2020 that she was expecting her first child.
So we’re actually starting Season 4 with the remains of Season 3. Of course you end a season with a big wedding and a couple of cliffhangers, but the way the entire wedding was handled this week makes one suspect they had not gotten to filming it before production shut down. As Fallon prepared for her big day, there were several things on her mind — shoes. Which shoes would she wear now that the wedding was going to be on the back lawn instead of in a church? Despite everyone warning her not to wear heels on grass, Fallon insisted she’d never wear flats, any time, and then promptly slipped on the floor and rolled her ankle pretty badly. On top of the injury, she still had to write her vows … the day of the wedding … and not just any old, boring vows, but an original song! But through it all, she surprisingly was not a ‘bridezilla’.
Meanwhile, Blake is trying to find millions of barrels of oil so he won’t lose all of his assets, but he has no clue that Adam is working with Alexis and Jeff, feeding them crucial information so they can buy the barrels of oil out from under Blake. But he’s not a quitter and when Cristal shows up carrying a garment bag, he plays nice and makes her feel like, even though it’s Fallon’s day, this may be their chance to fix their own marriage. But when he has his own oil crisis, he goes to her to ask her father for a loan so he doesn’t lose everything. She’s not thrilled that he seems to have been putting on an act with her so she’d call in a favor and she turns him down.
On to family member Number 2 — Fallon. She thought he was being a bit too nice when he didn’t object at all to Alexis walking down the aisle with them so she could support Fallon and her bad ankle. But now she sees through his facade and also tells him no. And … he’s not walking her down the aisle either. But she may not need help after all because he ankle seems to be on the mend pretty quickly.
But as the time approaches (and wedding guests are few and far between it seems), things really come to a head. A desperate Blake is begging for an extension on the loan because he’s in the middle of his daughter’s wedding. But his banker friend informs him the bank sold the loan and he can put Blake through to the owner. Blake is fine with that, and is surprised to hear a phone ringing in the manor. He’s even more surprised to learn that it’s Alexis’ phone, and with 40 minutes left before the $200 million is due, they are not about to give him an extension. Alexis gloats that the manor is now hers, but they’ll let Blake stay until after the wedding. Unfortunately, Fallon witnessed the entire conversation, so neither of them are walking her down the aisle. She finds Liam and asks him if he wants to go get married somewhere else, the last place where she was really happy. After all, weddings are really for the guests. There is no arm-twisting involved and Liam and Fallon make a quick exit …
… And turn up at her high school theater (how they got in, and got the lights and sound system turned on is anyone’s guess, but there they are. Now they just need an officiant and a witness. And a new pair of shoes. With the newly ordained, by the internet, Sam waiting at the manor to conduct the wedding, Fallon calls him and Kirby to meet them at the school. Not wanting to see obvious, they both leave in different directions, and for some reason Sam brings Culhane along with him. While Kirby is trying to pick out the right pair of shoes, she’s surprised by an uninvited guest — Evan (how a disheveled man with a long knife got into the manor is as puzzling as how Fallon and Liam got into the school). When Kirby tries to get help, Evan stabs her and take her phone so he can find Fallon. Cliffhanger number one.
Sam and Culhane arrive at the school and they assume Kirby is lost so they proceed with the wedding because, luckily, they have Culhane as a witness. Sam gives his little speech, and then Fallon sings her vows, bringing more than a few tears to Liam’s eyes. And then he asks how he’s supposed to follow that with his boring old vows. But his vows are simple and sweet, and we have a happy couple! Sam and Culhane leave, and Liam asks Fallon if she’d like to consummate the marriage on the stage of her high school theater, because she couldn’t have done that before, right? Well … Liam goes to get the champagne out of the car and while he’s gone Evan shows up, now with a knife and a rope. It doesn’t seem that Evan really has a plan, but he does threaten Fallon’s life when Liam returns. Fallon tries a little reverse psychology on Evan, hoping to convince him that maybe the two of them can try to have that relationship they sort of started when Liam had amnesia. Evan actually seems to believe her, and then Fallon spots Blake, who with Anders’ help figured out where Fallon was. Blake sees Liam move toward the circuit breaker for the lights, and he yells at Liam to throw the switch. Fallon kicks Evan in the family jewels right before the lights go out, there is a loud crash of musical instruments, and when the lights are on again, Fallon and Liam see Evan and Blake unconscious in the orchestra pit. Cliffhanger number two! We know they’re not killing off Blake, so Evan probably fell on his knife or was impaled on a flute or something. Not exactly the Moldavian Wedding Massacre, but what can you do when you’re filming during a pandemic and can’t bus in hundreds of extras?
On the fringes of the main story, Shirley Duncan showed up in Atlanta to tell Adam that Mr. Anders had been to see her about Adam’s mother’s death. She suspected he knew of Adam’s involvement, but she assured him that she was vague in what she told Anders. And she promised she’d forget everything she knows … for a price. But since Adam is in the middle of his sister’s wedding, that will have to wait until later. But, surprise, she’s working with Anders to get Adam to admit he killed his mother because Anders is worried Adam is going to hurt Kirby. Shirley is worried she’s the one whom Adam is going to hurt. And as luck would have it, who would be the firt person to discover Kirby bleeding out in Fallon’s shoe closet? Adam, of course, and while he’s trying to stop the bleeding Anders finds them, immediately believing Adam hurt Kirby, pulling a gun on Adam, warning him that if she dies, he dies too.
And Sam confronts his former husband about the lies he told about his flight being cancelled. Ryan tries to make excuses but nothing he says sounds remotely genuine so Sam sends him on his way. But, before the wedding, he approaches Ryan at the front desk of La Mirage to apologize for his behavior. Ryan said he was flustered because he really does have feelings for Sam, and Sam admitted he has feelings for Ryan, and why not stay a bit longer and be his Plus 1 at the wedding. Ryan says he needs to think about it, but by the time he finally makes a decision the wedding is about to begin (at the theater) so Ryan gets to watch via Facetime. Sam is happy Ryan has decided to stay but is Ryan just playing him?
Also, Dominique is going around the manor waving some papers at Blake that she claims gives her the mineral rights to the property upon which the manor sits. Blake isn’t buying it. When she hears that Alexis is the new owner of the manor, she also approaches her, offering to sell the rights but Alexis isn’t exactly liquid with having just screwed over Blake. But Dom is willing to work with her to further screw Blake with the promise of the earth beneath them littered with diamonds (I don’t think that’s how diamonds work). Alexis seems to buy it, talks Jeff into going into this deal, and Dom really thinks she’s scored. But does Alexis really believe there are diamonds on the property or is she playing Dom?
And Cristal went back to the priest and said she’s still a married woman but isn’t sure she wants to be … and then there was a really weird edit that cut right before they kissed.
It was a fun episode this week, and made for a decent ‘season finale’ with lives hanging in the balance, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.
