Derek Hough made a splash, literally, in New York last year as he performed a dazzling Singin’ in the Rain number as part of the Radio City Music Hall’s New York Spring Spectacular, produced by Harvey Weinstein.
The producer made an official announcement at his pre-Oscar dinner bash on February 27 that he would be bringing the French stage production of Singin’ in the Rain to Broadway with Derek Hough taking on the iconic Gene Kelly role from the classic movie musical. The Théâtre du Châtelet and Weinstein Live Entertainment will bring the show to Broadway and will also have productions around the world.
Hough teased on Facebook recently that he was “heading to Paris to see a play.” Hough has appeared on Broadway before in Burn the FloorFootloose.
The Théâtre du Châtelet production of Singin’ in the Rain staged 15 sold out performances in March 2015, and returned to the stage for 50 performances between November 27, 2015 and January 15, 2016. Weinstein Live Entertainment’s most recent Broadway production is Finding Neverland, and has also produced Mamma Mia!, The Producers, Billy Elliot: The Musical, The Color Purple, and August: Osage County.
There is currently no opening date scheduled for Singin’ in the Rain.
