Ever since it was revealed that Cristal is pregnant, I’ve been wondering if new Dynasty would have the guts to go where classic Dynasty went when OG Krystle was pregnant. Did they? More on that in a minute.
Ever since the show decided to give Steven the heave ho — and it’s still unclear if this is a permanent thing — poor Sammy Jo has been floating around the manor with pretty much nothing to do. I was hoping that Steven and Sam would be the one couple on the show who could enjoy a healthy relationship, but no, the producers felt like they needed more drama and now they don’t know what to do with Sam. After being scammed, possibly, last week he’s still focused on doing his daily affirmations on Instagram. But no one is watching … until Anders interrupts one of the videos and becomes a viral sensation. That leads Sam and Kirby to secretly record Anders babying the family dog, and one point even having dinner with the dog in the wine cellar. This whole thing was a bit goofy and embarrassing, but it ended in a really nice moment where Anders recorded a video for Sam telling him that he’s like a son to him. And then Sam got a call from Steven and it sounded like he was in a war zone. Sam said they were going to come to Paraguay to get him, but as the signal broke up and was lost, the last thing Steven said was that he isn’t in Paraguay. So where in the world is Steven Carrington?
After hitting rock bottom last week and finally admitting that she needed him, I thought Fallon was going to get back in the saddle and return to being the smart, savvy businesswoman we all know she can be. And then Blake gave her a job with his new soccer team and forced her to work with Culhane. A bit sadistic on his part, no? I suppose he felt putting the two together in a professional environment would at least get them to work together on a professional level, but all it did was put them into a game of one-upsmanship that nearly destroyed the viability and credibility of Blake’s new venture. The two bickered in the board room, in front of other board members, but Fallon took things to an entirely different level when she destroyed a document full of red flags about one of the players they were about to sign, most notably about how he was fired from a previous team for drug abuse.
Hoping to belittle Culhane, and proving to Blake that he should not be in business with her ex, Fallon set up a reporter at the press conference to question why they would sign a player with that cloud hanging over his head. Culhane was taken aback by the revelation, but Fallon stepped up and confirmed the team would be actively involved in drug rehab programs, hoping to turn this player’s negative into a positive. But it didn’t stop there. The reporter also brought up Culhane’s drug addiction past … and that was not in the script. Blake was furious with Fallon for destroying the report on the player, Michael was furious because he thought Fallon fed that private information to the reporter (she didn’t), and the end result was not Michael getting fired, but Fallon.
That gave her a moment to actually bond with Cristal, who was trying to deal with her own baby daddy issues thanks to Alexis inviting Mark Jennings to the manor (clandestinely, of course). Cristal gave her more motherly advice than Alexis ever did, and when Fallon said as much she didn’t know Alexis was lurking outside the doorway, getting hit with the realization that … no one needs or wants her anymore (and that came after Blake, Cristal AND Mark Jennings all suggested she’s holding on to something that’s no longer hers). So while Fallon went to apologize to Michael — and foolishly fall into bed with him, an action she regretted very quickly — Alexis plopped herself down on a chair and got drunk, prompting Anders to ask her to remove herself from the premises so the staff could clean.
All of Alexis’ chickens are coming home to roost now because it’s become clear that she was behind Mark’s arrival and even though Blake and Mark both fell for her manipulations, they also became aware that Alexis was behind the attempts at making both of them jealous, hoping to drive Cristal out of the mansion once and for all so she would weasel her way back into the family. Instead, she realized she was completely unwanted and stumbled to the gun room, selecting a pistol to do herself in.
Stagging out to the field and leaving a suicide note ‘For My Family’, Alexis was about to put the gun barrel in her mouth when she heard voices in the distance. Cristal had offered to go on one more horse ride with Mark before he returned home after finding out the baby is indeed Blake’s. Deciding that now was her chance to finally rid herself of Cristal instead of taking her own life, drunk Alexis aimed at the pair and fired off a shot, Mark’s blood splattering on Cristal, her horse throwing her to the ground and then dragging her several yards before she became untangled, lying bloody and unconscious in the field.
So, yeah, they went there! In the original series, Alexis — who was more about revenge than self-destruction — cold-heartedly planned to kill Krystle’s baby, firing a shotgun into the air while she was riding her horse. The Krystle lost the baby, so it remains to be seen if that will happen here. Original Alexis could easily have denied her actions back then, but it looks like our current Alexis is going to be in quite the pickle. Unfortunately, we won’t know what happens to her, the baby or Steven until the show returns on March 15.
