There is not a lot to write home about this week with only two new series premiering across the decades as the holidays approach.

1968

  • December 10 saw the premiere of The Bold Ones: The Lawyers, part of an anthology series that also included The New Doctors, The Protectors, and The Senator. The Lawyers starred Burl Ives, Joseph Campanella and James Farentino. Early in the series’ run, Farentino complained about the quality of the scripts and was suspended for three weeks, missing two episodes. Near the end of the third season he announced he would be leaving the show but it was not renewed for a fourth season. However, the series was nominated for three Emmy Awards and won two. The series ran for three seasons in rotation with the other titles, producing 29 episodes and two pilot movies. Notable guest stars (some playing different roles over multiple appearances) included Pete Duel, Dana Elcar, Will Geer, Pat Hingle, Randolph Mantooth, Jared Martin, John Randolph, Mel Tormé and James Wainwright.

2008

  • December 8 – VH1 continued its reality dating series fad with A Double Shot at Love with the ikki Twins, a spin-off of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. The series featured Erica and Victoria Mongeon who went by ‘Rikki’ and ‘Vikki’, hence the show’s odd title. Like the original show, this one was a bisexual-themed dating series with 12 straight men and 12 lesbian women vying for the twins’ attention. The winner would select which twin he or she wanted to be with, and Trevor chose Vikki. They split in 2010. One contestant, Kandice Hutchinson, died in a car accident shortly after production ended and producers edited the series to eliminate some of her more outlandish behavior. The second episode was dedicated to her memory. The show ran for just one season producing eight episodes and two specials.
