Come on, Dynasty! Could you not at least have let Fallon and Liam have a stable, happy marriage for the rest of this season before throwing one obstacle (mostly Fallon) after another at them? Yes, Fallon actually recognizes that she’s been a terrible wife, and yes, Liam knows that she’s had a lot of business stuff going on. But shouldn’t Fallon have taken some lessons from her father on how not to let business interfere with marriage?
This week it’s another crisis at Fallon Unlimited as someone is buying up large quantities of stock for what looks like a hostile takeover. But who? Of course it turns out to be her nemesis Colin, from whom she took some property in Scotland, setting his plan for revenge in motion. When he gets to a point where he only needs another 5% to become the new Chairman of the Board, Fallon snaps into action with her ‘Pac-Man Defense’ (or Ms. Pac-Man in her case), selling off her radio station to buy stock in Colin’s company.
The problem is, she did that without consulting the Board which gives Colin great delight … and the opportunity to pounce. He, in fact, had a pretty good idea Fallon would pull something like that and she had to grudgingly admit that what he did was well-played. But now she has to face her Board of Directors at the same time she was supposed to have dinner under the stars with Liam, who is getting just a little too friendly with Eva, remembering her favorite coffee and bringing her a cup when visiting Fallon to get her okay for the dinner menu. While Fallon promises to not miss dinner, she also has to find enough Board members to show their confidence in her to keep her on as Chairman.
She has three and Colin has three leaving one member, Quinn, as a swing vote. Hoping to bribe him, she learns Colin already has so she corners him at the gym to try to swing his vote her way. And Colin shows up on the other treadmill to do the same. At that point, Quinn is hoping for a third choice, and Colin thinks Fallon is attracted to him. He calls her an exhibitionist for her not very revealing gym wear, and then he takes off his shirt! Fallon says ‘who’s the exhibitionist now’ but she’s also very distracted by his body (sorry, he’s no Liam). Fallon realizes she’s playing a losing game with Quinn, but when it comes time to vote he is the only one to vote for Colin. Everyone else votes for Fallon, after she made a few promises, because she knew they would be easier to turn than Quinn. It’s time for Colin to be impressed by her maneuvering, and he graciously offers to sell the bulk of his stock back but Fallon invites him to stay on as a consultant. Which will be nothing but trouble for her marriage.
To make matters worse, she told Colin she could spare an hour for a celebratory drink — AN HOUR?! — and completely missed dinner. And Liam as well. Eva had mentioned that she’d be going on a hike in the mountains to stargaze with a group of strangers because her date happened to be unavailable at the last minute, so Liam surprised her by showing up. His intentions may be pure, but are Eva’s? She certainly seems to know exactly what she’s doing with Liam.
Meanwhile, Culhane is trying to get the new club some notice so he invites a popular podcaster to do a show there. Andre wants to interview the top Black businessmen in Atlanta and Culhane just happens to know one — Jeff Colby. With his company branching out into the space race, he’s the natural choice to do the show. Jeff isn’t that interested, but he’s doing it for his friend however it all goes horribly wrong when Andre begins pressing Jeff on his new venture and the backing he got from the government. Jeff refuses to talk about it, saying he doesn’t want to talk about things that aren’t solid yet, but Andre presses him until he blows up a bit and walks out of the interview, pretty much scuttling Culhane’s plans to make the podcast at the club a regular thing. And he lashes out at Jeff’s selfishness, but later Jeff admits to him that he never got the government funding so his pride got in the way of his friendship. Culhane brings some photos of off-shore oil rigs to Jeff and explains that the ones that have been decommissioned are being sold off and Jeff can buy one to use as a launch pad without any government funding. All they have to do is throw their support behind a senator in the upcoming election — the one running against Blake — in the hopes of killing two birds with one rocket. And Jeff agrees to a re-do for the podcast.
Sam, meanwhile, has put his own work on the back burner (leaving the business of finding a particular champagne for a huge wedding to Javier, who is not coming through) to help Kirby go on her apology tour. She makes her rounds but is afraid to talk to Adam. Sam finally takes her to the hospital to corner him and say her peace, which is very heartfelt but even though he seems truly affected by what she says, he still tells her that they can’t be friends again. Harsh. You’d think he of all people would understand. At the end of her tour, Sam mentioned she still had one person to apologize to but she had no idea that he was talking about himself. He drove her around all day, he helped save her life, he’s her best friend and she didn’t think that he should be the first person she apologized to?! Leaving her to think about her behavior, Kirby did show up at the hotel to finally say she was sorry to Sam, and that was all he needed. She also pulled some strings from her time as the hotel’s event coordinator and got the champagne he needed for the wedding party. Now that’s friendship!
Blake is getting new donors for his campaign, but he’s concerned about any skeletons Amanda may have in her closet. She assures him she has none, and if his campaign is dependent on anyone digging up dirt on her then maybe his campaign is already in trouble. But when she sneezes in sunlight, Blake begins to wonder if she is indeed his daughter (I though that was a normal thing … am I a Carrington?!). Alexis insists that the pregnancy was a result of her affair, but Blake pulls out one of Anders’ old date books and goes back 40 weeks from Amanda’s birth to the night of a party at which both he and Alexis got plastered. Could they have conceived a child that night? Alexis denies they had sex, but without a DNA test Blake will never know for sure.
He doesn’t want to freak out Amanda by asking her to take a test, so he plots with Adam to get a DNA sample. The first plan is for Adam to have a drink at La Mirage, ask the bartender for a clean glass for Amanda, who will then give the glass to Blake. Except Alexis is suspicious enough to show up at just the right minute to snatch the bag with the glass and smash it. Blake still doesn’t know how to get the sample, but Adam shows up at the manor later with a surprise — Amanda’s hair brush from which he took a few strands and the results are due at any minute. And when they come, Blake’s suspicions are confirmed — he is Amanda’s father. He storms into Alexis’ apartment — her building really does have terrible security — and Amanda overhears him telling Alexis the new. Tired of their manipulations, Amanda lays down the law and says if they are to have a relationship with her, it will be on her terms. You go girl … back to England, and fast! (Well, she’s staying as Eliza Bennett will be a regular in the fifth season.)
