Christmas comes to Dynasty as the Carringtons begin to deck the halls amid all the drama surrounding the missing baby. Sometimes when I watch Dynasty, I have to ask myself if I blacked out or if there was just some important piece of plot that the writers missed, or that the editors took out hoping no one would notice. That happened this week.
The Carringtons put out an all points bulletin for ‘Little Blake’ … leaving out the fact that the child is in fact not really theirs, hoping that the real mother — Crazy Claudia — doesn’t put two and two together. She’s not that crazy. While Fallon insists on doing everything legally for a change, with everyone going through her so she can coordinate with the FBI, Blake of course has to do things his way so he goes on the local news to make an appeal to the viewers to call in any sightings of Claudia Blaisdell. Luckily the hotel manager where Claudia just checked in saw the news and called the Blake Hotline.
Now prior to all that, Fallon had the FBI go to the apartment Matthew Blaisdell had, believing Claudia would have gone there to hide out. She wasn’t there but Fallon found an empty bottle of her pills and for some reason wanted the pharmacist to confirm they were Claudia’s because the name was scratched out. He wasn’t very helpful. Blake was also a little miffed by the wild goose chase, telling Fallon his people could have gotten there faster than the FBI, and that this is all her fault because she was the last person to visit Claudia in the looney bin before she busted out of the joint, and therefore not only was the fate of the baby on her shoulders but Cristal’s blood was on her hands as well. Merry Christmas, Fallon.
So back at the hotel, Claudia and the baby were gone but it turned out she was on the roof, threatening to kill herself and the baby. Blake, Fallon, Sam and Cristal 2.0 did their best to talk some sense into her and just as it seemed she was going to back away from the edge, she tripped over some cables and dropped the baby over the side. It was quite a stunning moment as we saw the baby plunging toward the ground but … something didn’t look right. It was like they had rented the really bad prop baby from American Sniper, but it seemed like one of the cops on the street was going to end up catching him. Nope, the baby hit the roof of a car and it turned out to actually be a doll. Wait what?
While all that was playing out, Kirby decided to pay a visit to Manuel who had previously been to the mansion to help offer any assistance he could to the FBI on the baby’s whereabouts. While he was there, Kirby seemed to be dragging him off to have a little one-on-one time with him, which was odd in the middle of all the FBI stuff. After he left, Anders found Kirby in the nursery supposedly looking for the baby’s pacifier which she noted was there earlier and was surprised that if Claudia took the baby, she should have taken his favorite pacifier and blanket then. But the pacifier was now missing. Anders, however, thought she was just messing up a crime scene.
Then Kirby shows up at Manny’s place for a little family counseling, since he took a semester of psych classes, and proceeds to talk about her relationship with her father that was making Manny a bit uncomfortable. When he excused himself for a minute, she took the opportunity to do some snooping and found Little Blake. So … Manny has had the baby the entire time (he came back for the pacifier under the guise of talking to the FBI)? Claudia never snuck into the mansion and took the baby, even though we saw her with the real baby? And Manny took the baby because Sam wouldn’t have sex with him?! When did Manny have the opportunity to sneak into and out of the mansion with the baby? Am I taking crazy pills?
He wasn’t too happy about the whole situation and nearly slit Kirby’s throat, but she was able to gain the upper hand and take him down, just as her dad arrived thanks to a text she had sent. So the baby is back in Sam’s arms and Anders realizes Kirby isn’t the reckless child he still believes she is. But Sam decides that it’s not right to keep Claudia and Matthew’s baby, especially not in the Carrington household, and he contacts Matthew’s parents to let them raise the child who is the last part of their son that they still have. A very selfless act on his part, but he’ll get to spend their first and last Christmas together with the baby and Steven when he gets home from Paraguay that night.
Now, they kept making mention of Steven flying home for Christmas so I knew that something was going to happen, like there was going to be a plane crash so they could introduce a new actor as Steven after recovering from the severe burns from the crash much as they did in the original Dynasty when Al Corley decided to quit the show. And just as everyone was having a few cups of Christmas cheer — and no one was flung into the ginormous Christmas tree this year — Anders came with some bad news: Steven never got on the plane. He’s missing!
And that’s not the only character whose fate is in jeopardy. Michael gave Jeff the flash drive from Ada with all the blackmail she had on him and Fallon, and Jeff thought Michael was free and clear of the scheming woman. But Michael was lured in by the money she was offering him, and he had another job to deliver some kind of artifacts to another client. It turns out the client was Van Kirk Industries, with whom Ada has had a serious grudge, and conducting this transfer of goods to VKI — the new owners of Carrington Atlantic — smelled fisshy to Michael. So he broke one of the items and found a bag of heroin inside. Neither party was thrilled about that, with the VKI guy thinking Michael was setting them up while Michael knew it was Ada who set them all up.
And then Jeff shows up, pissed that Michael is still working for Ada. And then the cops show up. Michael and Jeff try to make a run for it, but the VKI goon shoots and hits Jeff just above his heart. Michael gets him to the car and they take off. Michael calls Ada to give her a good talking to and she admits the whole thing was a set up and he was her perfect patsy. And, she warns him, the cops just might know the make, model and license plate number of the car he’s driving. Now as with the mystery of Manny and the baby, Michael was driving a van full of crates. If he’s making a run for it in Jeff’s car, how would Ada know that information to give to the police? Or was she just trying to spook Michael?
It worked because he didn’t think he was going to be able to get Jeff to the hospital but he relented and said he was dropping him off and splitting. He drove off but Jeff lost consciousness and while Michael was trying to wake him up he crossed the dividing line and seemed to have a head on collision with a truck. But just as the Carringtons were getting the news about Steven, Michael had dragged Jeff out of the wrecked car and called Blake and told him he was in some serious trouble.
And that’s it until January 18. Will we get a new Steven? Will Jeff survive? Will Michael and Fallon get married after he comes clean about all this? Will Fallon realize Liam is the one she should be with? We’ll find out after the holidays.
