In the week leading up to Christmas, none of the networks are about to waste new programming at a time when no one is watching. Except NBC in 2008, which must have known it had a turkey on its hands and decided to burn off a six week reality series when it wouldn’t do much damage. Does anyone remember Momma’s Boys/

2008

  • December 16 – Ryan Seacrest and Andrew Glassman produced reality dating series Momma’s Boys for NBC. The series focused on a group of mothers and sons, with the moms helping their sons pick the ‘perfect woman’. 32 single women were looking for romance with one of three eligible bachelors. The mothers lived with the women in a house while the sons lived in a condo nearby. The contestants participated in competitions, were selected for dates by the men, and faced eliminations at various intervals. Those who received a text message of ‘Yes’ stayed while those who got a ‘No’ left. But the twist was that if the men were undecided, they would meet at the swimming pool to talk before making a final decision. The mothers, however, would actively seek to influence their sons’ final decisions. The series ran for six episodes, ending on January 19, 2009 with NBC officially cancelling the series on March 13, 2009.
