There were three storylines in this week’s episode of Resident Alien so we’ll break them down one-by-one.

Ben & D’Arcy

After learning of the proposed luxury resort the mayor of Jessup is looking to build, Ben takes Sheriff Mike’s suggestion to survey some property in Patience that would be perfect for such a resort. The developers haven’t settled on a site yet so it would be a nice feather in Ben’s cap to steal the project away from Jessup. But the only way he can get to the property is by ATV and the only person certified to drive the one ATV available is … D’Arcy, which makes Ben incredibly uncomfortable. But they go and while sitting atop a ridge, D’Arcy apologizes for kissing Ben. Ben, however, begins to open up and reveals that all is not well in his marriage to Kate, particularly in the way she controls him, forbidding him to put a wall hanging that’s been in the closet for six months up on the wall.

Back at the house, D’Arcy and Ben put the piece up, a ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ hanging (okay, now we know why Kate didn’t want that on the wall), and D’Arcy reveals she hid some joints in Ben’s bedroom when they were kids — which is now Max’s bedroom, which freaks Ben out. Surprisingly, the joints are still there (they were too high for Max to see or reach), and they light one up. D’Arcy brought up Ben and Kate having another kid, but Ben said one was enough and there weren’t any plans because of Kate’s ovulation calendar. D’Arcy was surprised Kate would keep track of that but Ben surprised her even more when he told her it was he who was keeping track. D’Arcy was without a snappy comeback and she laid back on the bed and quickly fell asleep, Ben pulling the quilt over her, leaving the room.

Mike & Liv

Deputy Liv is doing all she can to convince Mike that the reports of a meteor over Patience recently might be a UFO but he doesn’t want to hear about it, and he tells her that she is free to investigate … on her own time. Later he catches her, on the clock, interviewing a resident of town and Liv says she’s taking a report of a robbery. But the woman tells him she’s reporting a UFO, and she even has video. But before Mike can say anything else, a perp is being brought into the station and he overpowers the officer. Liv springs into action and Mike yells at her to stand down. He pushes her out of the way and subdues the guy, but he’s furious at Liv for disobeying his order. Liv says she’s just doing her job but she’s not happy with how he’s been treating her.

Later she asks to meet with him at the park … and she handcuffs him to the bench until he talks. She knows something is bothering him but he won’t talk so she goes to get some froyo because it’s a good night for froyo. When she finally returns — without any for him — she finally gets him to talk and he tells her about his partner who died in the line of duty. The anniversary was recent and he gets weird around that time, but he goes deeper and tells Liv that he’s been friends with the guy since they were kids. They did everything together including attending the police academy, and if Mike hadn’t told him to follow the guy they were chasing, he wouldn’t be dead. So Mike has been blaming himself this whole time, and if Liv did something to put her life in danger and she died, he’d be so mad at her that he’d murder her corpse. But now with that weight lifted off of him, and Liv assuring him that she’s going to be fine and that he can talk to her about anything, their relationship may now be on more firmer ground.

Harry & Asta

Six months ago, Harry and Doc Hodges were mixed up in some criminal activity, and with Sam threatening to go to the police — and the real Harry ratting on him to whoever they were supposed to be working for — Harry was ordered to kill Sam. But Harry still doesn’t know the origin of the phone number from New York, so they are prepping for the trip. Asta told Harry she maxed out her credit card so they won’t have money for food but Harry tells her that’s not a problem, he’ll just get some from the money bag. He pulls out a duffel with thousands of dollars inside … and Sam’s medical records. Harry just thought it came with the house, but Asta knows this is something big and bad, and it may have something to do with the Galvan/Powell Group in New York. Before they leave, Sahar shows up to get the dog back that Harry took, and explained to him that Max stole the ball from Harry, Sahar stole the ball from Max, and someone stole the ball from Sahar. Funny, right?! And it’s probably the government that has it. While Harry went through various stages of panic, the dog somehow managed to drag 42 out of the aquarium and … mortally wound him. Harry was distraught with grief as 42 slowly slipped away in his arms, his last request being that Harry prepared him with a nice butter sauce, with a nice chardonnay. Harry tried to revive 42 as Sahar watched in horror but in the end … he was delicious.

When they get to New York, they get nothing at the pizzeria from where the call came, but Harry spots a mural on the wall of a building with the name Goliath written in his language. While Harry worked on pinpointing all of Goliath’s murals across the city, Asta tried to get into the Galvan/Powell building but could not get past security. Harry waited in a pie shop, and was joined at his table by a shady dude who kept asking him why he was in New York. Harry replied he wanted to try the pie, but the guy seemed very agitated that Harry had defied the rules and came back to the city. Asta had walked in and witnessed the heated, one-sided conversation and her suspicions about Galvan/Powell grew, but Harry made a discovery about the murals. Their placement formed a constellation, and the sun of the constellation was the same sun that shone on Harry’s planet. Now they just have to find Goliath.

Discovery an art gallery exhibit of Goliath’s works, they attend the party hoping to find the alien. They are greeted by the host, Violinda Darvell, and they wonder if she is Goliath. Harry remains socially awkward, taking an entire hors d’oeuvre tray from a server, and Asta decides they can cover more ground separately. Harry is ‘admiring’ an artist’s self portrait and is told that to really enjoy the painting he needs some help … with a hit of LSD. Harry obliges and drops the acid but nothing happens. Asta is approached by Violinda who explains that she’d never sell any of Golaith’s paintings especially the one they were looking at … because he painted it for her. She then asks how long has Asta known Harry is an alien, which shocks the shit out of her.

Harry continues to ponder why the LSD isn’t having an effect on him and suddenly he sees his hand changing into its alien form. Then the paintings start to come to life, totally freaking him out. Running out into the street, which he already hated because of all the noise and people, all of the noise, people and brightly colored lights made for an incredibly bad trip, Harry completely reverting to his alien form — although perhaps just in his head — looking around and exclaiming, ‘This is some bullshit.’
