Did Justin Chambers write this episode as a revenge for the sh*tty send off that they gave Alex Karev? Or do we know that this isn’t really goodbye forever as far as Meredith Grey is concerned? Or have the writers finally given up, have made their millions, and are ready to crash the show into the abyss so that it can finally go off air? All valid questions for this week’s stinker of an episode.
Welcome back. Or not. We don’t actually seem to care. The only thing that was resounding and beautiful, albeit expected, cliché, and groan-worthy, was that the interns now live in GreyHouse.
It’s not Meredith, George, and Izzie, it’s Lucas, Simone, and Mika Yasuda. And at some point — just like Karev, I’m sure one of the other two will move in too. Kitschy and cliché as it was, it also felt complete. That’s the only thing about this episode that was redeeming. “The circle of life begins anew because the new residents have taken over the house.”
Of course for a minute there it looked like we were going to have the most cliché of cliché nonsenses with Nick rushing up to the airport to catch Meredith before she boarded the plane. What’s worse is that she basically blew him off. He called, he did exactly what she said she wanted and needed — telling her he’s been in love with her since Day 1 — and she blew him off. Faking not being able to hear him, telling him she’d call when they were settled in Boston, and she hung up on him. DAMMIT, MEREDITH. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO STOP PUNISHING MEN FOR NOT BEING DEREK!?
We get the whole ‘I’m not going to beg you to love me’ because we’ve already seen the ‘pick me, choose me, love me’ girl once. But honestly? Just because Cristina told you that you were the sun? Doesn’t mean you have to burn people every time they try to do exactly what you ask them to.
The rest of the episode was just on par for the usual Grey’s shenanigans. Teddy wants to be chief … which according to next week’s preview, so does Amelia. So that should be hilarious. Just throw Owen in the ring and we’ll be right back at it. Thought it was pretty amazing hearing Amelia share her story about Christopher.
Maggie and Winston may be headed for the end of their marriage. They blew up again over the respect thing (Ben and Bailey made it work … these two cannot but honestly that’s because Maggie is toxic AF and is going to self-destruct every relationship she’s in … look at her track record thus far …) and Maggie catches Amelia in the elevator at the end of the episode and asks to stay at her place for the night.
Saw Owen in the background somewhere, Bailey and Richard too. The interns all had valuable lessons to learn. Sort of think Jules is shaping up to be the dud intern … as in the one that we’re not putting any focus on. The expendable intern? Blue and her are still hooking up.
And we saw some more of Taryn at the bar. Both teaching Yasuda how to do a stitch and telling Nick he’s a special kind of stupid for not picking, choosing, and loving Meredith.
And there was some nonsense with Jo, Link, and a cake. Which like all cakes in Grey’s Anatomy end up having their icing wiped off to be repurposed for someone else.
Like Meredith said, ‘It’s only Boston, I’ll probably be back here next week.’ And she’s likely not wrong. With a piss-poor send-off like this one, she better be back very soon.

yes, yes, yes. to everything u wrote. very disappointing. after 19 years, feel so cheated. could’ve at least brought back Christina or Alex.
I feel like she said, albeit glibly, “it’s only Boston; I’ll probably be back next week.” And while she hasn’t yet… (She is supposedly filming a six episode mini series with Hulu) that she will be back. The network would have made a much bigger deal promoting the “Meredith Grey send off” if this were actually it.
Alex we might get back for a series finale, but Sandra Oh will never return. Pompeo did not like potentially being upstaged by her.
