Bravo

Another week in May with more network series broadcasting their finales and very little in the way of new programming premiering. And certainly no scripted series. This week, only 2009 again had one new program, in the ‘reality’ category … if you can call it ‘real’ (even though it has ‘Real’ in the title the show still seems highly scripted). Let’s take a look.

2009

  • May 12 — Bravo expands its ‘Housewives’ franchise with The Real Housewives of New Jersey, the fourth show in the franchise and, curiously, the only one that references an entire state instead of a city like the others. The series launched with Teresa Giudice, Jacqueline Laurita, Caroline Manzo, Dina Manzo, and Danielle Staub as the focal points. The current cast includes Giudice, Melissa Gorga, Dolores Catania, Margaret Josephs, Jennifer Aydin, and Jackie Goldschneider, although the originals have come and gone and come and gone again over the series’ nine seasons (so far). Dina Manzo left during the second season and returned for the sixth and left again. Staub left after Season 2 and recurred in Season 8. Caroline Manzo left after Season 5. Laurita recurred during the sixth, became full time again for the seventh and then departed. Gorga joined in Season 3, Catania in Season 7, Josephs in Season 8, and Aydin and Goldschneider in Season 9. Other regular cast members have included Kathy Wakile (Seasons 3–5), Teresa Aprea (Season 6), Amber Marchese (Season 6), Nicole Napolitano (Season 6), and Siggy Flicker (Seasons 7–8). The show also spawned the spin-offs Manzo’d with Children and Teresa Checks In. The ninth season of the series concluded on March 6, 2019, and to date 165 episodes have been produced.
