Hotchka Movies by the Decade feature #232 :: January 2•8

Qwerty Films

Happy New Year! January is generall a dull month for new movie releases, with many in the modern era regarding the month as a dumping ground for movies the studios know won’t do well, so they release them when attendance is usually low. The earlier part of the century was still full of new movies but many of them are still not that well known. The biggest title is a Spener Tracy vehicle from 1955, with the later part of the century filled with movies entering wide release after limited December openings for awards deadlines, and the aforementioned films that the studio released to get them off the books. Take a look at the list below to see the movies that were released this first full week of January, and tell us if any of your favorites are celebrating milestone anniversaries. And if you want more information about this week’s films, we suggest Wikipedia, an important online resource.
