Sooner than expected – Richard, Maggie, and Hunt are all headed back to Grey-Sloan. The last time something happened that fast, they were trying to get rid of McDreamy. Woof. But not without some dancing all around the medical bush first. As we saw at the end of last week – Catherine made good on her threat; she’s purchased PacNorth and it’s put Richard into yet another tailspin. (He’s got every right, but we’re getting pretty tired of it pretty quickly.) Though his Godzilla zinger was spot on. Great analogy too.
Still no Alex; now he sounds even more like old Alex than ever before. As a series originator and a fifteen-and-a-half seasoner … they owe him better. And if that’s how they send him out? Shame on them. (And wouldn’t we all love to know what really happened to send him packing!) For two hot seconds towards the end there – it was a ‘hold your breath coin-toss’ to see if Jo or Bailey was going to take that 17-year-old foster kid home (Jo, who’s basically been abandoned by Alex or Bailey who’s still grieving her miscarriage). It was nice to see Ben for two seconds at the beginning … but we really need to stop having the crossovers foisted on us. (And it looks like we’re getting it again next week with a bear attack. Been there; done that. Last time it was a tumor.)
They served it up and handed it out to Koracick; Bailey, ever the glue that keeps the Grey-Sloan family together. Nice that they mentioned Hayes and Karve ‘co-chiefing’ together. Altman and Pierce Co-Chiefing should be good too. At least that relationship seems to be back on track. Also nice to see the ‘Board’ finally remembering that they are the board and acting like it!
That moment with Amelia and the head on Owen? WHY wouldn’t you at least attempt to mention something there? Oh wait, because we have to drag this out until the kid pops out screaming in Scottish … or in Mall Mannequin. Love that Jo and Amelia are deflecting their anxieties together and onto each other. (Jo is seriously going to end up with a foster kid in the end – OMG maybe she can raise Amelia’s double-dad baby!)
Meredith – you definitely would not have built the dance-floor. You made the house of candles, your romance bone isn’t dead, it just healed incorrectly after McDreamy died and when they reset it the first time (with Riggs) it just healed crooked; healing it with DeLuca (no matter how great the sex) didn’t help. Move along. (And seriously? You seriously want your half-sister’s sloppy seconds? Does nobody remember that he was with Maggie?) Nice to see Hayes’ boys too. See? Bonded family.
Love that we brought a deaf character into play as a respected medical consult; hate that we had to make her a liar (cute and cheeky as I’m sure it was intended) to make her credible to the patient. Maybe DeLuca can ride off into the sunset with her.
Niko and Levi are hitting the brakes because – and fair enough – they’re not at the co-habitation phase yet. Niko is 100% right; this is Schmidt’s first relationship out of the closet where he is accepting himself for who he is out loud, and Niko probably does have feelings – I don’t think it’s just sex for him (of course this won’t be the first Grey’s relationship to get raked across the coals …) – but it needs a pause and a look and maybe Schmidt will walk away. Sad though it will be; it will be okay too because of everything he’s learned about himself. Glad to see this crop of interns (they are still interns, right? Never sure how much time has passed with them … or are they young residents now?) has the ‘lets do cutesy stuff’ vibe in them, and for patients too! Not just for each other, very touching.
Today’s takeaways include ‘don’t mess with the G-S original posse crew, Catherine Fox is Godzilla, Maggie & Jackson might actually be able to be like Addison and Derek and eventually be civil in public, and Mer should think more about dropping dead weight DeLuca. Also Amelia has no idea who her baby daddy is and won’t for several more weeks.’ Get ready for next week – it’s going to be a ‘bear’ of an episode!
