Has Showtime cancelled Twin Peaks before it even began? Has David Lynch really left the revival?
Rumors are swirling that Showtime has cancelled the planned reboot of the beloved cult favorite, and David Lynch has indeed tweeted that he has left the project due to a breakdown in contract negotiations. But, he says that Showtime has not cancelled the revival. Can the show go on without Lynch, who had planned to write and direct every episode of the limited series? Could this be a ploy to finally settle a contract for Lynch’s services? Attendees at WonderCon this weekend had also been conveying the news that the show was done. Due to the holiday, there has been no official word from the network, but we’ll update the post when more news is forthcoming.
UPDATE: Showtime issued the following statement:
“We were saddened to read David Lynch’s statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points. Shomwtime also loves the world of Twin Peaks and we continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, David Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm.”
