Thursday’s Double Eviction shocked Houseguests and viewers alike as Shelli walked out the door first, Steve won HoH and promptly nominated Meg and Jackie without having so much as two words with either of them or anyone else. When John won HoH, Steve apparently asked him not to use it so Jackie was unexpectedly sent packing. Steve is an odd bird. All season long he’s said how much he hates Becky and that was his chance to send her home. So what changed his mind?
Seems like Vanessa is a master manipulator. We’ve seen her have a huge hand in almost all of the decisions that sent people home when he alliance was in charge, but managing to avoid getting her hands dirty. She’s still in the game because she threw Shelli under the bus, blaming her for attempting to backdoor Austin among other things. But Vanessa got into Steve’s head and convinced him Jackie had targeted him as a replacement nominee during her HoH. By the time Jackie got to speak to Steve during a commercial break Thursday, the damage was done and she was out the door.
Emotions were running high as we picked up on Sunday’s show with half the HGs still stunned by what Steve did, and from the looks of it, Steve was overcome as well, breaking down into a blubbering mess when Liz and Julia came to check on him. Then Vanessa barged in to offer her shoulder to cry on but Steve dismissed them all at that point to console himself … and tell us that half of that was a masterful performance. And with the spotlight on Steve this episode, it was amusing to see a montage of the bromance that has developed between him and James.
There was still some business to attend to as a new HoH had to be crowned, and after seven rounds of Mixed Emojis, Liz was crowned the new HoH, putting the former Sixth Sense alliance back in power. But with only four remaining members, Liz, Julia, Austin and Vanessa decided it would be in their best interest to bring in Steve as the fifth member of their new alliance … The Scamper Squad. Yes, seriously, that is the name they settled on.
But the other nameless alliance of James, Meg and Becky (why, oh why, has either alliance not locked in John?) are feeling the heat and they clearly know the source — Vanessa. Becky did her best to expose everything Vanessa has done behind her alliance’s back, including the Austin backdoor plan, but will Liz believe her? Vanessa also confronted John to try to reel him in, but when he questioned her actions and flat out told her that he felt she’s bullied him, that was the end of the convo and she ran right up to tell Liz what had happened. Except what she started to tell Liz was a complete fabrication of the story, making John out to be completely arrogant with her. The tall tale was abruptly interrupted when John ran to the HoH room after Vanessa because, as he said, it looked really fishy. He was right.
Unfortunately, Liz seems to be following Vanessa’s orders and nominated both Becky and John for eviction. Is The Scamper Squad intent on getting one of them out this week, or does Liz still have her doubts about Vanessa’s honesty and loyalty? The outcome of the PoV competition and Veto ceremony should make clear what Liz has in mind.
What you didn’t see…
Austin and the twins spent Friday making deals with James, Meg, Becky and John, but specified that they may need to go on the block as pawns.
There are Have Nots this week, again based on the agreed upon rotation schedule, so Liz “selected” Vanessa, John and Steve. The Have Nots can supplement their slop diet with pork chops. John forgot he was a Have Not later Friday night and ate some cookies, then asked if he could “throw them up?”
Austin is concerned that Vanessa cannot be trusted but they don’t want to take her out this week. He suggested they bring John into their alliance (finally!) to replace her.
The Power of Veto competition was held Saturday and Liz won. It was the Otev comp this week. John told Austin and Vanessa that he was going to throw the comp because he trusted them. Liz is planning to keep the nominations the same and have Becky evicted.
Austin and Liz are still concerned about Vanessa but don’t want her blood on their hands, so they are hoping that someone will take her out next week. Of course, as these things usually go, Vanessa will end up winning the next HoH.
