Let’s Talk About ‘Cat and Mouse’:
- General Wright thinks the alien boy is just a boy who looks like another boy, but he shows her who he really is.
- Dan tells Asta how he ended up being her father.
- Ben and Kate are at loggerheads over the resort and have to cease any talk of it while at home together.
- Harry reveals the truth about The Grays to Asta.
- Sheriff Mike is finally attempting to pursue Detective Torres, much to Deputy Liv’s delight.
- D’Arcy’s erratic behavior is threatening her relationship with Elliott.
- After more than 60 unanswered emails, Liv gets a major surprise when The Alien Tracker, Peter Bach, pays her a visit.
- Since Ben and Kate can’t discuss the resort at home, Ben enlists Mike to be his voice by inviting him to dinner at their home.
- Harry panics when he sees Liv at the diner with Bach, and Bach makes a play for Max’s loyalty.
It was a big week for some of the residents of Patience when Peter Bach, The Alien Tracker, comes to town. For Liv, it’s very good news but for Harry and Max, it is potentially very, very bad. And on top of that, just before General Wright is about to give up believing her young prisoner is an alien because of his human DNA — she doesn’t think anyone in Patience is an alien at this point — the boy who happens to look exactly like another long dead boy shows her exactly who he is. Wright starts to tell the boy how she and her father saw a UFO when she was a little girl and that she truly believes in alien life forms, and as she recounts her story the boy holds his hand over her head and he sees how no one believed her father, and how authorities tried to suppress his story which eventually led to his suicide from atop a lighthouse. Seeing Wright’s trauma, the boy reveals his true baby alien form to her. The question now is will she announce this find to anyone or will she protect the baby?
There were a couple of side stories in Patience this week which included Ben and Kate still bickering about the resort, mainly because Kate is getting back into lawyer mode, joining forces with Kayla to get an injunction against the resort moving forward. Ben isn’t happy to be clashing with his wife after they’ve made strides in their relationship, so to keep the peace at home they agree to not speak about the resort in the house. But Ben needs to get Kate back on board with him so if they can’t talk about it, what if a dinner guest does all the talking for Ben … which would force Kate to remain silent? Ben enlists Mike to be his voice, and it isn’t long before Kate realizes what is going on so the gloves come off. Unfortunately the whole conversation goes off the rails when the subject of whorehouses comes up and Mike tries to give Max the definition of such an establishment. Poor Max is terribly uncomfortable and goes to his room to finish dinner. And there he finds Harry, eating his stale Halloween candy (Max must have another Halloween to get fresh candy). But why Harry is there will have to wait.
Dan reveals to Asta how he met her mother, when he was in a band. She was always a free spirit, and she never revealed the identity of Asta’s father to him, but one night she just disappeared and left her baby behind. Dan said everyone told him to call CPS but he called an adoption lawyer instead and that’s how he became her father, the best decision he ever made. But D’Arcy is making some really bad decisions, popping pills left and right to deal with the pain in her knee. Elliott can see she is behaving erratically, but she just tells him it’s nerves about the competition coming up. But later at the bar, Asta and Kayla watch D’Arcy berate a customer for leaving a tip she didn’t feel was sufficient and then snap into best friend mode with them. Later, Elliott comes to the bar way past closing time and finds D’Arcy asleep on the pool table, front door unlocked. He begs her to be honest with him about what’s going on but she keeps making him the problem to the point that he can’t take anymore and says goodbye, walking out of the bar and out of her life. Damn it, D’Arcy! But that seems to have finally made something in her brain click and she went to Asta and told her the truth. Now, will she be able to compete, and is Elliott truly removed from her life?
And, hey, Mike is finally going after Lena Torres, even though Liv almost screws it all up by commenting how those two are going to have ten babies … before Mike hangs up the phone after leaving Lena a message. But she finally does make an appearance and it looks like perhaps Mike will have a reason to stay in Patience after all. And Asta confronts Jay and tells her that she loves her and she is always there for her whenever she wants to talk. And if she doesn’t want to talk to her, that’s okay too, she’ll still love her.
But the big news for Liv is the surprise arrival of Peter Back, The Alien Tracker. She figured he was just a jerk for not answering a single one of her sixty emails to her, but when he comes into the room he tells her it was sixty-two emails and would she mind having lunch with a jerk. Liv is thrilled that her idol is finally in Patience to hear her story, but they just happen to go to the diner at the same time Harry and Asta are there. Harry had his back to the door but Asta went into panic mode when she saw Peter, knowing he would remember her face from the UFO convention. Even worse, he can see Harry’s alien form so they need to hide before Peter spots them, but the kitchen isn’t the best place. While Harry tries to sneak a peek from the window, Peter glances over and sees the alien’s face. He excuses himself when he sees Harry pass through the kitchen to make his exit. Liv is excited to think that Peter is on alien tracking duty right here in town.
Asta joins Liv and pretends she doesn’t know what’s going on, and Liv fills her in on the conversation with Peter and that he must now be tracking an alien. And he is, confronting Harry in the alley outside of the bar. With his electric cattle prod device, Peter is about to zap Harry but the door flies open and knocks him down. Harry sees it’s Judy and says that yes he will join this woman he does not know for a drink, and Judy thinks that Harry is finally interested in her. Ew. Harry makes an even faster retreat out the front door. Peter goes back to the diner to continue his talk with Liv, and she shows him her binder of UFO articles and photos that she’s kept since she was a child. Of interest is the drawing she made from Max’s description of the alien he saw but tells Peter that it was confirmed as a hoax. Peter knows it is not, but does not let on to Liv, instead asking her if he can hold on to the binder for a while. Letting The Alien Tracker look through her binder is one of the greatest thrills of Liv’s life.
Harry goes back to the clinic to hide out, eating that angry nurse’s lunch to pass the time (she really needs to make a ham sandwich next time), and Asta tells him he needs to go back to his cabin to hide. Harry’s internal voice tells us that aliens do not hide, they hunt, but he will go back to the cabin. While he’s in his truck about to leave, he sees Peter talking to Max on the sidewalk. Peter shows Max that drawing and tries to get him to admit he knows who the alien is, but Max tells him he doesn’t know. Peter knows he does know and keeps pressing him, but Max refuses to say anything. Peter give him his card and tells Max to call when he’s ready to talk. Harry is now concerned that Max is going to rat him out and …
,,, that’s how he ended up in Max’s bedroom. Harry tries to play mind games with the boy, trying to tug on his heartstrings by reminding him that they are friends, and that Max was friends with Harry before he was friends with Peter. But Max is still unsure what to do, so Harry pretends to call another friend to make Max feel bad, and snatches more of Max’s Halloween candy before exiting through the window. Harry does go back to his cabin, but so does Peter. Has Max ratted him out? Peter peers in through the window and sees Harry asleep in his bed. Peter quietly enters the cabin — does Harry not lock his doors? — with his cattle prod at the ready. Entering the bedroom, he zaps the creature but when he pulls back the covers there is nothing there, just blankets and pillows arranged to look like a body. As Peter backs out of the bedroom, he doesn’t see the large alien behind him, but he hears it. Turning, he’s shocked … literally. It seems that Max chose a side, and it was Harry’s.
