Broadway’s long-running musical hit Mamma Mia! is set to close up shop on Labor Day and the Broadhurst Theatre will go dark for a brief period. Moving into the space beginning October 22 will be the stage version of the Stephen King classic Misery written by William Goldman, who also wrote the screenplay for the film. The 16-week engagement will star Bruce Willis, in his Broadway debut, as the novelist rescued by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes, who goes off the deep end when she learns he has killed off her favorite character in his latest novel.
Annie was originally set to be played by Elizabeth Marvel, but her committment to Netflix’s House of Cards caused a scheduling conflict. Annie will now be portrayed by Laurie Metcalf.
