A massive storm, a power outage and a fried modem will not keep us from our Dynasty recap, but since we’re late this week we’ll just focus on the main question — who is in the casket? To me, it seems obvious at this point considering the three people now having taken their seats: Fallon, Adam and this week Sam. They all have one person in common even if there are three suspects. Or is it victims? We’ll break it down.
Liam
Of course we all feared it was Liam because the season opened with just Fallon sitting graveside artfully weeping. And after the revelation that Liam’s father may have been murdered, and an admonition from Fallon to not fly off to Washington and get mixed up with some dangerous people, the immediate reaction was that it was Liam who died.
They really want us to believe this even more with this week’s hacking storyline, with Fallon and Jeff thinking someone in Fallon’s company hacked their computer system because of a personal vendetta against her (like her new assistant she’s already had painting her toenails … and stealing office supplies as a sort of payback). But by the end of the episode we learned it wasn’t Fallon Unlimited that was being hacked, it was just Fallon’s and Liam’s emails. Someone with some big bucks is keeping tabs on Mr. Ridley. Of course it all seems very sinister right now but will it end with his death? Doubtful. But who could be tracking him? His father, perhaps, who isn’t really dead? He was filthy rich when he was alive and someone is getting paid handsomely to perform the hacking so I’m going to put my cards on that being the outcome. Of course, Fallon would be weeping at Liam’s grave with Sam there for support, but would Adam be right next to her?
Cristal
Cristal is over her fling with the hot priest — and still unaware that is not because of divine intervention, but rather Blake Carrington’s money — and she’s not pregnant, so now is as good a time as any to rekindle her romance with Blake. Of course there is that little matter of her brain tumor possibly getting in the way of their future plans. Adam advised Cristal that, while they will do anything possible to help her (and at this point it’s looking rather grim but I’m betting there will be a miracle cure … or the X-ray just had a fingerprint on it and there is no tumor), to tell the ones closest to her that she loves them so she’s putting all of her focus on Blake, going so far as to book them a private dinner in the Louvre after hours under the Mona Lisa. While Blake keeps telling her this is just the beginning of a very long life together, Cristal still hasn’t had the heart to tell him the truth. But Blake has been through three Cristals already, and Dynasty isn’t Dynasty without Blake and Cristal, so don’t count on her being in the casket. Besides, Fallon would hardly be the one weeping at her grave, and Adam and Sam barely have any interaction with her.
Kirby
Kirby is the character no one seems to really know what to do with, with the writers even putting it in the storyline that she doesn’t know what to do with herself. Cue Alexis’ scheme to snag Kirby’s ex to fly to Atlanta to pretend to have a photo gig and put this glamorous life of modelling right in front of her so she’ll ditch Adam. But did Alexis know of Kirby’s history with her ex? Her father certainly does and is none too pleased that Oliver is wooing his daughter again. And thanks to Oliver mentioning that a woman is paying him well to be there, Anders knew immediately it was Alexis since she tried to conspire with him to cause a breakup. He refused and Oliver entered the picture so … this is all kind of Kirby’s dad’s fault, not for working with Alexis but for not putting his foot down and just letting Kirby and Adam be.
The relationship is already beginning to take a toll on Adam as Kirby is constantly (conveniently) tied up on photo shoots, one that made her miss a hospital function, and being a doctor Adam can clearly see Kirby is using drugs. Kirby denies it, but every time she’s with Oliver he has a reason to give her some coke. She’s tired and needs energy for the shoot … have a coke and a smile. They need something to celebrate Kirby getting hired for a major photo shoot (and we have to assume Oliver is completely lying to her about this client and campaign). It’s escalated to the point where Kirby is now at the ‘it’s just a little, it can’t hurt’ stage … which is why the person in the casket has to be Kirby.
They don’t know what to do with her (this is the biggest storyline she’s had). Killing her off is cruel (to the actress) but it makes for good drama. Plus Kirby is connected to all three people at the funeral thus far: she’s been best friends with Fallon since they were children; she’s in a relationship with Adam; and she’s been Sam’s best friend as well, not to mention an employee at La Mirage. It’s the only person who makes sense, right?
