Dynasty :: A Little Father-Daughter Chat

Screengrab

This was an interesting episode of Dynasty. Liam was back, but MIA are Alexis, Jeff and Dominique. Of course we know Dom went to New York with Monica, so Alexis must be spelunking in the diamond mines and Jeff is just chilling somewhere. So that left this episode to really focus on the Carrington family. And Sam and Culhane.

Sam and Culhane are the best of friends now and Sam feels he can reach out to Culhane any time he wants to have a shoulder to cry on. Sam is now worried that his relationship with Ryan is coming to an end because Ryan is trying to get into law school in Atlanta but there are no scholarships available. But he did get a full scholarship to Tulane, which means he doesn’t have to move from New Orleans. He won’t take Sam’s money so Sam does what any rich boyfriend would do and makes a donation to the college so they can create a fake scholarship for Ryan. But Ryan sees right through it and packs his bags.

The newly wealthy Culhane, after selling the Atlantix, is having trouble spending his money. Or at least Sam thinks he is. Culhane just wants to be frugal so when the bidding got too high on an Aston Martin driven in a James Bond movie — and Sam reminds him he could have bought twenty Aston Martins — he bought underwear instead. But knowing what Sam did, and why, he has a chat with Ryan before he leaves to convince him that Sam’s heart was in the right place. When Sam also admitted that he didn’t want Ryan to leave, that lifted a huge weight from both of their shoulders because he didn’t want to leave either. And in fact, he’s going to school in Atlants courtesy of a loan from the Bank of Culhane, who actually put his wealth to good use. And he got that Aston Martin after all.

With Adam trying to clean up the mess Fallon made at the hospital — and she still insisted he be the one to choose one person from the five to award the grant — he’s more focused on being the new head of the hospital, to the detriment of his sex life with Kirby. After Kirby overhears one of Adam’s rivals threatening to expose his shenanigans, she puts a plan into action. They let themselves into the doctor’s office to ‘tweak’ her PowerPoint presentation with a little added personal sex video (by the way, who leaves their office for the night and doesn’t make sure their laptop is secured?), which ruffled the doctor so much that it gave the Board concerns that she could not handle herself in a crisis. So she was fired and Adam may have sailed into that leadership position which, in his mind, will put him on equal footing with Blake and Fallon.

As for those two, Fallon may have made a huge mistake hiring her father, a man who has no boundaries and won’t listen to anyone but Blake Carrington, as he constantly refers to himself. Looking to trim so fat from her newest acquisition, Blake simply fires the entire staff. Problem solved. Yeah, no, that was not what Fallon had in mind and he had to fire everyone back. After two days under Fallon’s gaze, Blake decided it was time to find a new job. But first, now that the priest is out of the way, Blake’s got to get to work on wooing Cristal back.

They meet a couple of times and Blake manages to do everything right, particularly when it comes to paying attention to what Cristal is saying. And she gives him some advice on how to work with Fallon, taking a step back because she is the boss. Blake takes the advice to heart and even attends a yoga class with the staff, but by this point Fallon has learned Blake has been looking for a new job — by setting keyword alerts for the employees’ emails which she most likely has access to illegally, as Liam points out — so she fires him. But still trying to be humble, he comes crawling back to apologize and admit that he needs Fallon more than she needs him. It worked, so she’s going to give him another chance.

Cristal may also be ready to give Blake another chance because their little get-togethers at La Mirage went so well. But going back to her room, Cristal was in sudden pain causing her to collapse briefly. Anders was coming around the corner and helped her, but she said she was fine … and not please not tell Blake. Anders said he wouldn’t but it’s obvious he saw what we all saw because this is the first episode we’ve seen Cristal in complete wide shots. I think it’s safe to say they are finally incorporating Daniella Alonso’s actual pregnancy into the story, and we’re pretty sure the Father is the father. The real question now is how will Blake handle this development?
