Dynasty :: The big reveal

Screengrab

There was a lot crammed into this week’s Dynasty so let’s get started.

Fallon found herself torn between business and pleasure, not knowing how exactly to react to Liam’s book. Is it a love letter or a break-up note? She asks Sam to read it and give her his impression but he’s occupied with other things. Adam, who spent the entire episode just popping randomly into a scene (‘magic’ he said … and on this show at this point it’s entirely possible), offered to read it but Fallon’s still not warmed up to him. So he took it while she napped.

For her part, there is still a book to promote and now everyone seems to think it’s about Liam’s ex so Fallon makes amends with her after the ski lodge incident and sends the pair out to do publicity, thinking it’s better the public doesn’t know it’s about her. But their interviews and a paparazzi shot of them having dinner sends Fallon into a tailspin. Did she inadvertently relight a flame for them? Both Sam and Adam tell her Liam obviously has feelings for her and she’d better do something before he does fall back in love with the ex.

After a series of unfortunate events convinces Blake that Cristal’s father is waging a war with him, Blake has a friend cut the power to a soccer stadium where her father has rigged a game, costing him millions. Worried this will escalate into physical harm, Cristal invites her father to smooth things over and admit that she’s the one who caused all the tension between them. Realizing the truth, both men agree to a truce and even get into business together … rigging soccer games all over the world.

Probably not a good move for Blake now that Jeff is convince he’s laundering money for Cristal’s father, roping Culhane into his scheme to expose Blake and reclaim the land the Carringtons stole from him. But Culhane isn’t able to find the crates of money he suspected were in the wine cellar (again, Adam just pops up to distract Culhane), and he’s concerned about Jeff’s increasingly odd behavior. There’s something in the paint in his new office that is having a definite effect on his behavior. The funny thing is that there was no money laundering, but with Blake now actually working with Flores, Jeff and Culhane were basically handed the information they need. Thanks Cristal. But will Jeff have a complete breakdown before that happens?

Sam is ready to celebrate a new phase of his life now that his divorce from Steven is final. So he decides to have a ‘coming out’ party to celebrate the new him. And what better way than a masquerade party (suggested by … Adam). No one is on board except Sam so a masquerade it is. Which is the perfect opportunity for Adam to bring Alexis home and reveal her new face.

The party actually goes well, with Fallon and Liam finally admitting they love each other — Yay! — and Sam having another nice bonding moment with Anders (ummm, where was Kirby this week?). And then … Adam arrives with some big news as he gathers the family (at least he waited until the party was over): Alexis is out of the hospital and ready to show off her new face. No one really seemed to care but when she removed her mask, jaws dropped, no one quite knew what to say then Sam just blurted out that she looks like Fallon.

Feeling humiliated, Alexis runs off and no one quite knows how to deal with it. Welcome back, Liam! Actually, he’s the one who convinces Fallon to talk to Alexis, who continues to believe she now looks five years younger. Fallon pointedly tells her she looks like Fallon five years ago. The talk does not go well, and Fallon returns to Liam — Yay! — and everyone is left befuddled by the end of the episode.

My one question about this whole Alexis thing — okay, two questions: Is that Nicolette Sheridan’s voice, or is Elizabeth Gillies (and I love that not only is she in the opening credits, but gets a Special Guest Star credit at the end as well) doing an uncanny impression? Sheridan has a very distinctive voice so I have no idea if Gillies is being dubbed or not. And if that is the case, then that certainly leaves the door open for Sheridan to return after she’s had time to deal with her family issues. I would guess that if Sheridan hadn’t planned to return, the role would simply have been recast with another actor instead of going with this bonkers storyline. What say you?
