Dynasty :: Two weddings and…

Screengrab

Dynasty was firing on all cylinders this week as the Carringtons and the Colbys prepared for the wedding of the century … and then completely diverged from the original series where Fallon actually did marry Jeff Colby. Of course the whole affair was a sham on the part of the Carringtons once they knew Jeff was attempting to destroy them, but what’s a little technological espionage between friends?

Fallon, for her part, went into full bridezilla mode ordering rare flowers that are only found on the side of a mountain on the other side of the world, and swimming peacocks (peacocks don’t swim), attempting to make the whole ceremony seem as real as possible. Because if it isn’t the most over-the-top wedding ever performed, Jeff would know something was up. But Jeff is so focused on screwing everyone over that he probably wouldn’t have noticed anything amiss.

But Blake needed Fallon to sell this so they could lure Jeff, Monica and Cesil to the manor for the wedding rehearsal in order to get a team into Jeff’s house to breach his server and retrieve the information he stole from Carrington Atlantic. Except Cesil refused to go, so instead of putting the brakes on the wedding as planned, Fallon was actually going to have to go through with it and Blake was going to have to convince Cesil that he needed to be there for their children.

This episode had a ton of twists and turns as Fallon did not want to go through with the ceremony so she cooked up a plan but Blake was just as focused on his revenge to be bothered with her. Jeff told Fallon that once they were married, he would give her Morrell Corp and 25% of Colbyco. Fallon, in turn, would give Jeff 25% of her share of Carrington Atlantic. After having a total meltdown and screaming at her father, telling him that she no longer wanted him to walk her down the aisle, Cristal stepped in and actually supported Fallon. In fact, Cristal had already tried to help by calling Blake’s father to come and stop the Carrington-Colby union. But once he knew what was at stake, he was on board too … until the actual wedding was underway.

But Fallon may have made a fatal mistake prior to the wedding by dragging Culhane to City Hall and then springing a surprise marriage on him so that the ceremony the next day would not be valid. Culhane was less than thrilled to have his feelings for Fallon used in such a manner and he basically left her at the alter. It’s going to take a lot of work to repair that relationship.

Speaking of broken relationships, Sammy Joe was feeling snubbed by the whole Steven and Ted sham, not to mention how his undocumented status was hanging over him. While getting Fallon to sign off on peacocks and the like, he slipped in a form that showed he had employment but she was more concerned about going to jail for having an undocumented person on her payroll. Sam didn’t get his signature, but Fallon did agree to find him a date for the wedding.

On the wedding day, all of the Colbys arrive and Blake’s team gets to work on Jeff’s server. The plan was for them to get it done before the ceremony, but they ran into some unexpected security measures and they could not stall the ceremony any longer. With Cristal walking Fallon down the aisle, it was fun to watch Fallon’s face change from happy to sad to happy to angry as she looked at various guests, Michael and Blake. As the vows commenced, Anders was waiting for confirmation that the server had been retrieved but as time wore on Blake’s father began to unravel and Blake tried to stop the wedding when they got to the ‘does anyone object’ part, unaware that he was about to really screw things up. I loved how Fallon told him that she was going through with the wedding, ending with a withering ‘you may be seated.’

As the vows were sealed, the news came that the server was secured but what good would that do at this point? Fallon and Jeff signed their respective documents transferring shares of their companies to each other. But the joke’s on Jeff. With the documents signed, Fallon announces the marriage is not valid because … she’s already married! But to whom? That guy who she set up as Sam’s date, that’s who. After Culhane ditched Fallon at City Hall, the stranger stopped and tried to console Fallon. And she offered him a big payday if he’d be her husband for a few days. So Fallon is actually Mrs. Liam Ridley and she has control of her company and sits on the board of Colbyco. What about Jeff’s shares of Carrington Atlantic? That contract is null and void because, unlike his contract, Fallon’s had a provision that stated the shares of CA would not transfer if the marriage was invalid. And it all happened because Cristal stepped in and helped Fallon when her father wouldn’t because all she needed was the COO’s signature.

Already feeling guilty for helping her brother try to screw over the Carringtons, Monica left, probably feeling completely alone at this point because she was pretty much used by both Jeff and Fallon. After a failed attempt at poisoning Blake — Jeff saw his dad spike Blake’s drink and then drank it himself, replacing the poison with water after having detected the vial earlier — Cesil knocked out one of the security guards and took his gun, hoping to take out Blake once and for all.

Entering Blake’s study, he was about to shoot Blake but it was Blake’s father and, seeing Cesil with a gun, suffered a heart attack. Jeff happened to enter the room and quickly whisked his father away because seeing him waving a gun around was not going to make him look any less innocent than he already is. But Anders discovered the man and everyone gathered to help while waiting for the ambulance. In great pain, Tom Carrington revealed that Blake had never slept with Cesil’s wife (something Blake had tried to convince everyone of), he was covering for him. And then he lost consciousness. Well this opens up a whole new can of worms.

What no one knows, yet, is that before his heart attack, Tom saw Steven and Sammy Joe talking. After Sam discovered that his ‘date’ was actually Fallon’s new husband (and after the events of the day, it seems that the two may actually have a little spark between them), and after Steven realized that seeing Sam with someone else was killing him, the two finally reconciled, undocumented status and political career be damned. But Tom, after making several racist comments about Cristal and Sam, was on the phone making a report about an undocumented person at the Carrington home. That man has stirred up a whole lot of trouble on his way out of this world.

Next week, Alexis finally arrives to stir up even more trouble!
