From the beginning, Denis O’Hare has been a presence in the American Horror Story franchise, and he will continue to be seen in season five’s Hotel. Ryan Murphy stated that they are finalizing O’Hare’s deal now, but did not elaborate on who his character would be.

Murphy also shot down rumors that this season would be a musical, despite the casting of Lady Gaga, Cheyenne Jackson and Matt Bomer. Murphy spoke to Deadline and stated: “People, keep saying to me, ‘What numbers are they singing, what numbers are they singing?’ and I say, ‘There will be no numbers. The interesting thing is we cast a lot of singers this season, but I like that singers — for the most part — [tend to be] great actors, because they know how to sell a story through song. I’m excited about that and I think that’s why Gaga was excited about it; it’s not something that she’s ever done before. It’s a pure acting part. I think people expect that she’s going to be sitting in a bar in a white silk gown sort of singing songs — she is not.”

Still no word on Frances Conroy, but she is busy with other projects and may not be able to return in a regular role. She could still make a cameo appearance like Lily Rabe did during season four while she was busy filming The Whispers. Jessica Lange has also hinted that she is indeed open to appearing an a few episodes if the part is a good fit. If there’s anything Ryan Murphy can do is find a role to fit Ms. Lange.

Murphy also noted that season five will be much more horror-oriented, more dark, bloodier and grislier than they’ve done before. You have been warned!
