On American Horror Story: Apocalypse, the geeks shall inherit the earth

It’s becoming clear that just because you happen to be the Anti-Christ, the title doesn’t come with infinite wisdom. Which is something you’d think a demigod … or demidemon … would possess (pun maybe intended). But as Michael Langdon wanders the Earth, he has absolutely no idea what his purpose is or even what he can do besides a few magic tricks, and travel to Hell and back. Oh yeah, and he can erase someone’s soul from existence.

He only has one clear purpose now and that is to kill every witch in the coven, still holding a grudge for their immolation of the original Ms. Mead and his two warlock protectors. Knowing Michael is coming for them, Cordelia has a spell cast on the academy to protect them from intruders, but it seems her magic isn’t as powerful as Dinah Stevens’ voodoo which easily breaks through the protection spell and allows Michael and new Ms. Mead to enter the house, brutally slaughtering everyone including Zoe and Queenie. The only four left standing are Cordelia, Myrtle, Madison and Mallory (and that explains why after the Apocalypse, it was Madison who visited the Outpost with Cordelia and Myrtle and not Zoe). Sadly, Cordelia only now just learns about Michael’s ability to erase someone from existence as she tries to revive Zoe and Queenie only to watch them just fade away.

They escape to Misty’s cabin (she’s galavanting with Stevie Nicks) to regroup. Cordelia, however, was so distraught over the loss of her girls that it was suggested that Mallory, with her incredible powers, could travel back in time to prevent the massacre from happening … something that no witch had ever been confirmed to be able to do, Myrtle always regarding the stories as myths. But there is something about Mallory, about the way she not only healed the shot deer but reversed its aging process that make Myrtle believe she can do it. Agreeing to give it a try, Myrtle and Cordelia send her on a dry run back to the Russian Revolution, just before the massacre of the Romanov family. It turns out Anastasia was a witch, so Mallory was sent to help her protect her family because she was not strong enough to do it herself. And it nearly worked, but they lost focus and Anastasia and the rest of her family were still killed, but they proved this process was more than a myth. Cordelia was certain though that Mallory would never be strong enough until she was dead.

Myrtle would not hear of Cordelia doing anything drastic so they decided to see the help of the warlocks, but Michael got there first, murdering them all, some dismembered with their arms forming a circle around the bodies of the others, including Behold and John Henry, which had been placed in the form of a pentagram. As it stands at this moment, there are only seven witches left in existence — Cordelia, Myrtle, Madison, Mallory, Coco, Misty and Stevie (plus Dinah) and Michael is determined to kill them all. But how?

Side note: It appears that Bubbles McGee, who died in the slaughter at the Academy, was not Evie Gallant at the bunker, which is why she was not resurrected with Mallory, Coco and Dinah. But we still don’t know how or why Dinah became part of that group after what she did to the coven. But she was rewarded for her assistance by Michael’s dad with a 13 week guarantee for her new talk show.

Thanks to his new friends Mutt and Jeff, they have the solution he needs. Michael doesn’t know they have placed a camera in the robotic Ms. Mead, so they can see and hear everything, even communicating with him through her. There is a particularly funny moment when Ms. Mead asks Michael what his plan is and he says he wants to get into politics, start as an ambassador and move his way up to the presidency. The geeks realize this is the plot of The Final Conflict, aka The Omen III (which is a misnomer since that title was never part of the original movie title), and have Mead suggest that he should go and talk to the boys.

Mutt and Jeff have had some issues with Miss Venable, or rather she’s had issues with them, and she is submitting her resignation. But they have an offer for her, and reveal that the organization they’re involved with, The Cooperative, is actually a rebranded Illuminati. They reveals their plans to her, and offer her a top spot in one of their outposts where she’ll have free reign to do whatever she wants, make whatever rules she wants (but as we know now, that didn’t go over to well with Michael when he came to the Outpost).

The boys then have a sit down with Michael and reveal to him that The Cooperative is the Illuminati, and they have a vast arsenal of nuclear warheads at their disposal. Some of the members of the group the guys name dropped were Putin, Warren Buffett, Clinton — Bill, not Hillary — and Genral Kim of North Korea. They even have some missiles that will launch automatically even if all of the generals are dead. The guys don’t really care about Michael or his plans — of which he really has none — but they are ready to burn this mother down and as long as it kills all the witches … Michael is in. Meeting the masked members of The Cooperative, Michael reveals the plan to destroy the world, keeping them and their families safe in the Outposts … for the tidy sum of $100 million each (which will go towards the construction or retrofitting of the various Outposts as well as stocking them with supplies while the survivors await the all clear to return to the surface).

And there’s only one episode left! How we get from this end point to where the season started is anyone’s guess but it looks from the preview for the finale that we’ll get a little more Constance Langdon!
